I’m Patrick. I live in Kitsap County, Washington, on the far side of the water from Seattle, with my husband Matt and our dog Darby. By day I run systems and technology for a school district. The rest of the time I write.
Echoes from the Break is where the writing lives now. All of it, in one place.
Some of it is travel. Matt and I get out when we can, and I’ve kept a habit of writing a note every day we’re on the road. Where we ended up, what the light did, who we met. Those used to live on Facebook and disappear into the scroll. Now they’ll live here.
Some of it is home. The fog that takes the far shore away. The ferry at the end of a long day. The particular grey of a Northwest morning in November. I spent more than a decade in the desert before coming back, and I still haven’t gotten over being here.
Some of it is the town. Schools, levies, boards, the slow work of keeping a community from coming apart when the loudest voices would rather see it split. I’d rather build than argue. I write about that too.
And some of it is pride. Not the June kind. The Tuesday kind. The kind you carry into rooms that might not be ready for it. This publication started as the blog for EverProud + Collective, a queer-owned apparel brand Matt and I ran for a couple of years. The store is closed now. It never found its audience, and that’s alright. The writing was always the part that worked.
I don’t post on a schedule. I post when I have something to say. It’s free, and it’ll stay free. If you want to pledge, that tells me the work is landing, and I’m grateful for it, but there’s no paywall coming.
Everything here is mine. The views don’t belong to my employer, any board I sit on, or anyone else.
Stay soft. Stay grounded.
— Patrick
